Students From Balkan Communities to Win a Month's InterRail Pass to Explore Europe
Eurail Group G.I.E. announces the second 'European Rails of Peace Project'. Eurail Group is a non-profit cooperation of 30 European railway companies and shipping lines. Since April 2007 Eurail has managed the InterRail Pass, allowing holders to travel across Europe by train. The European Rails of Peace Project has been organised by the Global Forum and the Cultural Association of Travels and Freedom (Viaggi e Liberta).
The Project involves 51 students winning an InterRail Global Pass, valid for a month's train travel across Europe, sponsored by Eurail Group and supported by UIC and The Solidarity Fund for Youth Mobility and the European Youth Foundation. The youth, from various Balkan communities, including Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia, were selected based on their academic achievements and their motivation to participate in a peace building project.
The winners will be involved in peace building workshops and activities. They will be encouraged to connect with each other and peers from communities previously engaged in conflict by sharing experiences and dialogue. The Project trip will commence in Vienna on 17 July, reaching Rome on 20 July and ending in Siena on 24 July. The students are free to continue exploring Europe thereafter using their prize, the InterRail Global Pass, valid from 25 July to 15 August.
The InterRail Global Pass enables travellers to enjoy the diversity of Europe's rail offerings, ranging from the high speed TGV trains to the slower local trains allowing users to appreciate the stunning scenic views. With over 40,000 railway stations across vibrant cities and rural towns there are boundless travel opportunities.
New for 2007 is the InterRail One Country Pass. The train pass for one European country formerly known as EuroDomino is now also the InterRail One Country Pass.
